Gaming World - Troy Trojans 2027 Season - UTEP & Houston

After a week of rest, the unbeaten Trojans are ready to continue their season. We hit the road to the Sun Bowl for a game with the UTEP Miners. I love playing at the Sun Bowl. It is such a nice stadium with a really neat view of the city of El Paso.

Both of us were 3-0 entering this game and I knew this would be the toughest game of our young season. I knew the fun and easy games would not last long and I was correct.

At the end of the 1st half UTEP had a 17-10 lead. We were being out dueled by the Miners every step of the way in this game.

It came down to the end of the 3rd quater when we were down 24-10, Quarterback Alonzo Roberts hit Running Back Bryan Rohden at the end of the quarter to cut the UTEP lead down to just 7. We still had a lot of work to do.

The Trojans answered the challange thanks to two more Touchdown throws from Roberts. One man who does not get enough credit for the success of this Troy team and the success of Roberts at quarterback play is Kyle Kidd. He had a huge game and caught the two TD passes that gave us the 1st Troy lead of the ball game, 31-24.

UTEP still had plenty of fight in them. They drove right down the field and picked up another Touchdown on a 12 yard pass from Corey Concepcion. Concepcion threw the ball for over 400 yards against our defense. Game now tied at 31-31 was not enough for our Trojans to quit in its first real test of the season

Troy went right down the field with little trouble and called a time out with five seconds to go at the 33 yard line. We went to kick the game winning field goal....and missed it as it hit the left upright.

Overtime.

As the road team we got to call the coin flip and we called it wrong, so we would get the ball first in overtime. It would take us just three plays to put the football in the end zone.

38-31 Troy.

UTEP football now and it took them just two plays to score and match our touchdown pass.

38-38. Double Overtime.

The miners would get the football first in the second over time and would quickly get two first downs. However our defense would hold strong on the next three plays and force UTEP to have to kick a 21 yard field goal.

41-38 UTEP. This was our shot to strike.

In our 2nd overtime possession we would score in five plays and cap off the drive with a nine yard touchdown pass from Roberts to Kidd to give Troy the win 44-41 in double overtime. Biggest challenge of the season so far, but we pulled out the win.

Make it four straight player of the game awards for Senior Quarterback Alonzo Roberts, 29-46, 441 Yards, 5 Touchdowns and once again, 0 Interceptions.

Some of the huge numbers both teams put up in the game. You can see how evenly matched both teams were. I expect to see UTEP again at the end of the year in the Conference USA Title game...if we keep winning of course.

Easy Coach :/

Coaches were impressed with our double overtime win and we have moved up from 23 to 13 in the polls in just four games. Hopefully we can keep impressing and leap over some of these one loss teams soon.

Chalk up another player of the week award in the conference for Roberts.

Check out the impressive numbers from Roberts and Kidd this season. Roberts has come a VERY long way from his start to his junior season when he threw 12 interceptions to just one Touchdown.

Folowing two successful road trips, we went back to Veterans Memorial Stadium to attempt to move to 5-0 on the year.

The return home with the Houston Cougars was close early on, but the Trojans ran away with things once the 2nd half hit. Houston has not been a great team for a few seasons now. Their 1-4 record proves that.

Roberts does it again! Make that FIVE player of the game awards. Another five touchdown day with ZERO interceptions. He has only thrown 1 interception all season, 4 out of 5 games he has thrown zero picks.

The 5-0 Trojans have put up some impressive numbers. Some of the best I have ever seen as coach of this team. Roberts with only 73 incompletions to 103 completions for over 2,000 yards, 29 touchdown
passes and just ONE interception. All that in five games. Again, we can't leave out Kyle Kidd. 34 catches for 678 yards and 8 touchdowns.You know are you good when you average 20 yards a catch.

Moving on up! Troy now ranked at #11! Remember, to make a BCS bowl, all we have to do is be ranked up in the top 10! Top 10 ranked teams make the 5 BCS bowls. If we get to that point, it would be my 4th BCS bowl with Troy in seven seasons.

As impressive as Alonzo Robets has been, he still can't break away from that 5th place spot in the Hesiman Race. Maybe he will move up soon if he keeps playing well.

Can you say Player of the Week in the Confrence for the 5th week in a row? Cmon Hesiman voters!

Check out where Roberts ranks among the other quarterbacks in college football.

More props for Kyle Kidd, 8th best receiver in the NCAA.

Here is some love for the defense, Hubert Payne the #2 ranked player in tackles in the NCAA.

We land our 1st big recrut of the 2027 season. Paul Bridges from Gainesville Georgia, a four star quarterback will be on his way to Troy next season. I look forward to coaching him.

Next week we have a game with the Memphis Tigers. Always a big revenge game for me after they were 3-8 back in 2024 and took down my 11-0 Troy Trojans. Ruined our shot at a National Title game and Joshiah's Junior season. That loss hurt bad and began the so called "Libert Bowl Curse" We never play well in that stadium. Lets see what happens next week as the tough part of our schedule begins!
